WHITECLIFF Marlborough NZ Pinot Gris 2016
The aromatics are quite complex – Rock melon, rose petal, brioche, tangerine, lime zest, and baked pears with a hint of cinnamon. The palate has a very rich entry, sustained weight through the mouth, finishing with a pleasant warmth. Flavours of rock melon linger.
Classic Pinot Gris aromas of nashi pear with a streak of baking spices, lifting the nose further are some delicate floral notes of wild field flowers.
Pleasant fleshy entry works across the palate retaining a smooth flow. The wine finishes with a slight peak of acid which provides the length and leaves the nashi pear flavours pleasantly lingering.
It is a versatile wine but is particularly well matched to lighter fish, pork and chicken dishes, particularly those of Italian origin.
